Florian Lachinger marks 15 years, Andreas Krenn marks 20 years: Energiewerkstatt is celebrating two service anniversaries at once. Both have helped shape the company’s development over many years and, in their own ways, embody what makes Energiewerkstatt’s work special: professional expertise, a spirit of innovation, and a positive team atmosphere.

Florian Lachinger: From Graduate Student to Key Liaison

Florian Lachingers’ story at Energiewerkstatt began in 2011 with his thesis at the University of Applied Sciences in Wels. At the time, he was tackling a problem that repeatedly arose during wind measurements at remote locations: ensuring a reliable power supply. Especially in winter , failed diesel generators caused significant data gaps. Florian developed a smart off-grid power supply that combines various energy sources and manages them according to demand. Energiewerkstatt incorporated the solution into its product lineup and has deployed it in numerous applications.

Fifteen years later, Florian, as a senior consultant, serves as a key liaison between clients, project managers, and partners. He coordinates projects, plays a key role in business development, and, as the managing director responsible for mechatronics under commercial law and a member of the internal executive board, bears significant responsibility.

Florian has experienced firsthand that wind measurements don’t always take place under normal conditions. He particularly remembers setting up a measuring station in Armenia, where the team was caught off guard by heavy snowfall. It was an adventurous mission that remains one of his personal highlights to this day.

What Managing Director Andreas Krenn particularly values about him

“Florian is a go-getter. He takes a pragmatic approach to finding solutions, has an excellent network, and is always there to offer advice and support to younger colleagues.”

Andreas Krenn: 20 Years in Research, Wind Power, and Business Development

Andreas Krenn looks back on two decades at Energiewerkstatt. Initially working as a project manager, he moved into executive management about six years ago. During this time, he has witnessed firsthand not only the company’s development but also the transformation of the wind energy industry.

His professional milestones include the first Austrian wind atlas from 2011, international research on assessing the risks of ice fall and ice throw, and large wind farm projects in Southeast Europe.

Pioneering Work Breaks Down Barriers

A multi-year EU project in Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia was particularly influential. There, Energiewerkstatt carried out pioneering technical work in regions where wind energy had barely been tapped. The collaboration also had a special human dimension: During a project meeting, the topic of landmines in a project area near Mostar came up. In a subsequent one-on-one conversation, one of the Serbian participants, Andreas Krenn, pointed out that he himself had been involved in laying those mines and that great caution was required. It was an encounter that Andreas still remembers to this day.

To him, the continued development of the Energiewerkstatt is at least as important as the technical work itself.

“Mistakes are allowed to happen. What matters is that they aren’t caused by carelessness, that we learn from them, and that we improve together.”

As managing director, he sees his role as more than just providing guidance. He also sees himself as a support provider for the entire team.
