On behalf of IG Windkraft, Energiewerkstatt has prepared a study in which the overall effect of wind turbines (WTGs) at forest sites on the forest fire risk is weighed up. It showed that the lightning protection effect of modern wind turbines outweighs the risk of a turbine fire spreading, which tends to reduce the overall forest fire risk in the vicinity of the turbines.
