Wildfires are on the rise worldwide – and climate change is further exacerbating this trend. In addition to human causes, lightning strikes are considered the most common natural trigger in many regions. Due to their height, wind turbines act as lightning rods and are equipped with sophisticated protection systems. In a short study for the Australian client TagEnergy, Energiewerkstatt examined the extent to which wind turbines can reduce the risk of wildfires in wind farms, an important factor given Australia’s climate and vegetation conditions. We sincerely thank TagEnergy for their trust and for the successful cooperation ‘Down Under’.
